Malaysian girl, 4, dies after being run over by mum
KOTA KINABALU — A four-year-old girl was crushed to death in Malaysia today (Feb 1) when her mother accidentally ran her over in the driveway of a kindergarten after dropping her off.
District police chief assistant commissioner M Chandra said that the child’s teacher and two other pre-school students were also injured in the accident this morning at the car porch of the Alam Damai Kindergarten in Taman Seputih, Luyang.
“The victim, Megan Wong Shi Ting, was rushed to a specialists’ hospital nearby and pronounced dead at 10.10am. (A) 5-year-old sustained (an) injury to his hip, a 6-year-old girl suffered some mental trauma while the 25-year-old teacher broke her hip and is suffering from internal abdominal bleeding,” he said.
According to reports, the victim’s mother, 36, had just dropped her daughter off and returned to the car, a Ford Focus, when she accidentally pressed the accelerator pedal before she put the car into reverse gear and the car lunged forward.
“The four victims were hit and fell to the floor in the driveway in front of the preschool,” Mr Chandra said.
The other victims are receiving medical treatment at the Queen Elizabeth II hospital.
Mr Chandra said the accident was due to the driver’s carelessness and that it would be investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 that prohibits reckless and dangerous driving. MALAY MAIL ONLINE
